Vet Dentistry FAQs

Veterinary emergency care is specialized medical attention provided to pets facing sudden and critical medical situations. You should seek emergency care for your pet if they experience severe injuries, difficulty breathing, seizures, sudden lethargy, uncontrolled bleeding, ingestion of toxic substances, or any other life-threatening condition.

An emergency situation for pets refers to any sudden and serious medical condition that requires immediate veterinary attention to prevent further harm or potential loss of life. Some common examples of pet emergencies include:

  1. Difficulty Breathing: Rapid or labored breathing, choking, or any signs of respiratory distress.

  2. Severe Injury: Significant trauma from accidents, falls, or animal attacks, leading to open wounds, fractures, or bleeding.

  3. Ingestion of Toxic Substances: Swallowing poisonous substances, such as human medications, household chemicals, or toxic plants.

  4. Seizures: If your pet experiences seizures that last longer than a few minutes or occur in succession.

  5. Sudden Collapse: A pet suddenly collapsing or being unable to stand.

  6. Difficulty Urinating: Struggling to urinate or passing blood in the urine.

  7. Heatstroke: Especially in hot weather, overheating can be life-threatening for pets.

  8. Uncontrolled Vomiting or Diarrhea: Continuous vomiting or diarrhea that doesn't subside.

  9. Inability to Deliver Puppies/Kittens: If a pregnant pet is having difficulty during labor.

  10. Eye Injuries: Any injuries or sudden changes in the appearance of the eyes.

If you suspect your pet is experiencing an emergency, do not hesitate to contact us immediately. In cases where the emergency occurs outside of regular business hours, seek assistance from an emergency veterinary clinic or animal hospital. Timely intervention is crucial in ensuring the best possible outcome for your pet's health and well-being.

We are happy to see emergencies and help care for our patients during our normal hours of operation, but there may come a time that you need emergency care while we are not open.

In case of an emergency, there are several emergency clinics that are either 24 hour facilities or they are open the hours we are closed.  Several options are listed here, but please try to go to the closest facility to make sure you pet is stable and get them the immediate care that they need.

Click the links below to find out more about these facilities, including their location and contact information.

We do not offer payment plans through the clinic itself, but we do accept Care Credit.  Follow the link below to see if you qualify.

While it's natural to want to help your pet, attempting to treat emergencies at home can be risky and may delay proper medical care. It is best to bring your pet to our clinic or a nearby emergency facility where trained professionals can provide the appropriate care and timely interventions.

During your pet's emergency visit, our veterinarians will promptly assess their condition, perform necessary diagnostic tests, and stabilize them. They will keep you informed about the diagnosis and treatment options, discussing the best course of action for your pet's well-being.

Yes, emergency surgery may be necessary for pets with severe injuries or life-threatening conditions. Our skilled surgical team is prepared to perform emergency procedures to address traumatic injuries, internal blockages, and other critical medical issues.

While emergencies can be unpredictable, taking some precautions can help prevent certain risks. Keep harmful substances out of your pet's reach, ensure they are safely secured when outdoors, maintain a pet-first aid kit, and schedule regular veterinary check-ups to detect and address potential health issues early.

While it is not always possible to notify in advance during emergencies, if you can, a quick call can help our team prepare for your pet's arrival and provide timely care. However, if you're unsure or the situation is dire, prioritize your pet's immediate well-being and bring them to us as soon as possible.

If your pet's emergency necessitates ongoing care or hospitalization, we will provide comprehensive treatment and support throughout their recovery. Our compassionate team will keep you updated on your pet's progress and work with you to develop a personalized care plan to ensure their optimal recovery.
